It's exciting to have authors or illustrators visit your school. I should know! As a K-5 librarian, I've booked over twenty-five of them for my school library. It was thrilling to watch my students get excited about meeting a "real" author. I worked hard to ensure the visits were successful. As an author, I want to thrill YOUR students and motivate them to read and write each and every day. As a teacher, I understand YOUR NEEDS. I am FLEXIBLE, PROFESSIONAL, and COMMITTED! Extensive Teacher/Curriculum Guides will be available for all six Katharine books in September, 2008.

Haven't booked an author before? Not sure what to do? I've got you covered! No worries! I'll offer suggestions and work with you to ensure the visit is 100% successful.
I
speak to as many students as you need me to. While smaller groups are more
intimate, I have no problem speaking to larger groups. I'm used to it and I'm
able to hold the attention of even the very youngest child. Did I tell you that
I LOVE sharing my love of books with children and teachers?
I offer up to four
presentations a day. (My K-5 school has over 600 kids! I understand the need
for multiple presentations.)
I talk about a wide-range of subjects that can be tailored to each grade level:
My Journey To Publication (with lots of rejections!), Editing (They'll love to
see that my editors have asked me to edit my stories/projects just as much as
their teachers have asked them!) The Steps Involved in Making a Book, and, with
each grade, I prove that authors are just regular people like them and
share stories about my life. family, and writing experiences that they can relate to.
What else? How about songs, props, book talking some of
my favorite books, and LOTS OF FUN!
I am so confident that your students and teachers will be 100% satisfied with my visit, that I'll offer a 100% refund to any librarian who feels they didn't get their money's worth! I want to make my visit EASY for all involved. In September 2008, I'll have teacher guides for all of my Katharine books available. These guides will offer many opportunities to integrate the books with all areas of the curriculum: Language Arts/Writing, Character Education, Science, Social Studies, and more! The authors I've booked have had a fee anywhere from $1,500-$2,500 each. My honorarium is a fraction of that BUT you're still getting a dedicated professional in the field that will leave your students feeling just as passionate about books as I am!
